Welcome to blog #12

This release is all about leveling up the experience with smoother new animations, a brand-new feature to explore, and a fresh set of icons to sharpen the look and feel. Small details, big impact. Let’s dive in!

New animations

We’re also working on some brand-new animations for our darling Eylanders!
They already have quite an impressive repertoire, but we just can’t resist giving them even more personality and liveliness. Some  animations currently in the works? A satisfying sweeping animation, a chill BBQ (flipping burgers) animation, an adorable bubble-blowing animation and a crazy fun trampoline animation!

We’ll be showing the full animations off on our social media soon; so keep an eye out!

Big new feature: quests!

While watching our testers play and of course while playing Towns of Yore ourselves we noticed something about how neighborhoods were forming. When houses were placed close together, they sometimes felt like simple rows of blocks  and in areas where houses were more spread out, things could feel a little empty. Functional? Yes. Magical? Not quite.

So we took a step back and asked ourselves: how can we make neighborhoods feel more diverse, lively, and full of character? Things like cozy alleyways in denser parts of town, the kind you want to wander through but also charming little gardens and personal outdoor spaces in more spacious areas make a town feel real. Different layouts should create different atmospheres.

To support this, we’re introducing neighborhood-based fixtures. Players will be able to place objects themselves; think BBQs, alcoves, little seating areas, and more. If you want to give your Eylanders some agency, they’ll choose a fixture on their own. The best part? What appears will depend on the type of neighborhood.

A tightly packed district might naturally grow lively back-alley details, while a quieter residential area could bloom with gardens and cozy outdoor corners. We’re excited about how this will make towns feel more organic and varied so it feels less like ‘just rows of houses’, and more like real places where different communities take shape. This is a rather fresh idea, but here are the first examples!

Finally renewing our icons!

We ran into a small but important problem: we didn’t have fitting icons for everything in the game… So we decided to experiment with setting up a little icon pipeline. Our artist started by creating a simple mesh as a base. From there, our CEO took it into paint-over mode and gave it some love; adding color, texture, and that slightly magical, hand-painted feel we enjoy. And voilà… some of our new icons! It’s a small thing, but creating our own icons gives us so much more freedom to keep everything cohesive and truly Towns of Yore.

Bellow you can see new icons for: Houses, Brick roads, the Town Hall and the Magic Well!

Gatherer

Assign an Eylander to gather food and bring it to the cooking station. This will make sure the Eylanders can get a satiating meal and don’t go hungry while you are busy.

Post office

Hauling resources from one place to another can be quite the hassle when done alone. This is where the post office comes in! Assign Eylanders as couriers, plan their route and choose which product they have to transport.

Trading post

Sometimes you are looking for a specific product or just want to sell some of your excess produce. The Trading Post is a great way to get resources that are out of reach for now or to gain some extra runestones by selling from your inventory.

Thank you for having an interest in Towns of Yore

These blogs will be posted every month. The second blog will go more in depth about what our team has been tweaking, changing or adding to the game! We hope you will join us again.
