Welcome to our 5th blog post!

Here we will give you an update on what we have been up to since our last blog. The holiday season is almost upon us, another year coming to a close, but we keep developing on!

Entertainment

We added a big feature to Towns of Yore this month! Entertainment!
Visiting and residential Eylanders prefer a beautiful and cozy island instead of a boring and empty one. When they walk around and see interesting workstations or colorful decorations, they now earn you ‘entertainment’ points. These entertainment points can help you unlock new additions to your island.
We implemented this feature to give you a small side objective; decorating is not just for fun (even though it is a lot of fun in our opinion) but now it also has a purpose and some rewards attached to it.

Research UI/UX

Many developers, designers and artists will know the sting of the ‘research tree’. How can you create an overview that is easy to read while still giving you all the information in a few clicks and looks. One of our artists has been working on this issue UI wise. They have created a new hover over and information screen! Here is a first look for our loyal blog followers

More on the tutorial

As game developers you sometimes forget that new players would not know instinctively what to do and where to go, so a tutorial is (of course) a very important part of the game.
Getting a new player familiar with your game in an instinctive and fun way can be quite hard. We have previously only used simple tutorial steps for testers but now we are streamlining and redesigning the tutorial section.
Since we are a management game with a 3rd person perspective we have decided to make the tutorial more based on ‘objectives’. If you follow them, you will have a good start to your island and production chain but we don’t want to railroad players too much, we want them to be able to have unique playing experiences.

Improvements and fixes

- Resources don’t spawn in each other, on roads or in buildings anymore
- Worker Eylander AI improved for certain workstations (gathering and dropping off resources)
- Back-end work on ‘roads’ for improved performance
- Big balancing improvements considering the cost of workstations

Thank you for having an interest in Towns of Yore

These blogs will be posted every month. The second blog will go more in depth about what our team has been tweaking, changing or adding to the game! We hope you will join us again.

It would really help us if you could wishlist the game: Click here
